3 more ways to earn some money while stuck at home with your children during COVID

A lot of us are still on lockdown (or close to) restrictions while many people are losing their jobs. It can be hard yo search for a job at the best of times, but if you are also juggling kids at home with remote school it can start to feel impossible. Here are a few ideas on some more work at home (with kids) ideas to keep you busy for the next few months.

  1. Platforms like outschool.com are exploding in popularity as people are trying to keep their children occupied while they also try and work from home. What can you teach? Think of some skills that kids might like to learn like film making/editting or coding as well as some ways to supplement their schooling. This platform is a great way for people with kids to utilise their experience in making complex topics child friendly. Even if you don’t have professional experience in any topic, think about what knowledge you could spin in a child friendly way - can you run Spanish conversation classes about Minecraft? Or French conversation classes about instagram posts? How about the maths of how to predict how long it will take to run out of Nutella or other kitchen items? My son has recently been enjoying a science extension program themed around farts which is an excellent hook for the 7-11 age group!
What will you need: A laptop, a camera and a catchy hook to make your class standout!
What can you earn: You set your own rates per child, but $8+ per child is very attainable

  2. Proof reading. Many people have been using covid as the chance to finally write that novel or short story they’ve been meaning to write. However many of them need a solid proof read before they are ready to be submitted. If you are an enthusiastic reader and/or nitpicky about grammar this is the time to make your skills pay the money!

What will you need: A computer and a description of your experience.

What can you earn: You set your own rates - start low and build up some experience. It’s easy to build up to $50/hr or more with some experience.

  3. Tutoring - a lot of parents stuck at home with their children are stressed out in trying to keep their kids up with their school work. If you are an experienced home schooling parent you might be well experienced in helping children keep up with a home school work load and breaking down complex work tasks into easy to tackle tasks. You can sign up on a range of schooling websites but Facebook and other social media sites are often the best source of referalls.

What will you need: A computer and a description of your experience.

What can you earn: You set your own rates - start low and build up some experience. It’s easy to build up to $30/hr or more with some experience.

These jobs are a great option for anyone with an education background or experienced parents with an enthusiastic attitude.
